What Sid Eats In A Day
Well, you guys said you’d like to see this, so here goes! For some context, Sid is an 18yo 16.2hh ~1300lb Oldenburg gelding. He is an EXTREMELY hard keeper during the winter. Currently Colorado hay prices are skyrocketing due to two bad years in a row, so free choice hay is not an option, which is why I have decided to rely on one of @triplecrownfeed’s complete diet options. I’ve broken these down by summer and winter diets, as they are considerably different for him.
SUMMER AM: • ~2lbs Triple Crown Senior. This is a spectacular forage-based grain that includes the Equimix technology to support his gut and overall health, while keeping the NSC content low to avoid “hot” calories. • ~8lbs quality grass hay. • 1 scoop Smart & Simple MSM. Sid is a creaky old man as a result of his younger jumping days, and this helps keep him comfortably and happy. • 1 scoop Smartcalm. I’ve talked about this before, but Sid really benefits from a calming supplement. • 1 scoop Smartlytes. This helps encourage water consumption during the hotter months when he is sweating more. NOON: • ~4lbs quality grass hay PM: • ~8lbs quality grass hay • ~2lbs Triple Crown Senior • 1 scoop Chia Seeds. This helps boost his coat shine and hoof health. • 1 scoop Fly Repellant Supplement.
WINTER AM: • ~4lbs Triple Crown Senior. Up goes the grain to boost calorie intake during the colder months. • ~8lbs quality grass hay. • 1 scoop Smart & Simple MSM. • 1 scoop Smartcalm. I’ve talked about this before, but Sid really benefits from a calming supplement. • 1 scoop Smartgain. This gives him an added boost of fat and essential amino acids to help his body condition. NOON: • ~4lbs quality grass hay PM: • ~8lbs quality grass hay • ~4lbs Triple Crown Senior • 1 scoop Chia Seeds. • 2oz Essential Omega Blend by Triple Crown. This stuff is AMAZING for putting weight on and keeping it on. This winter was my first time using it and I kid you not I saw the difference in a week. Craziness.
I hope this helps give you guys some perspective on what and why Sid eats what he eats! Feel free to leave questions down below and I’ll do my best to answer. Thanks!
